Dental Veneers

Veneers are a thin layer of porcelain designed to fit over your teeth and cover imperfections, giving you a beautiful smile in a matter of weeks.

Veneers are permanently cemented to your teeth and provide a minimally invasive way of improving the color, appearance, and shape of your teeth.

Veneers can treat gapped, chipped, or worn-down teeth, teeth that are misshapen or uneven, discolored teeth that can’t be whitened, and in some instances veneers can even treat teeth that are misaligned.

Dental Bonding

Tooth bonding, an alternative to veneers, is the process through which a composite resin material is bonded over a broken, chipped, damaged or discolored area of your tooth. Bonding can help improve the shape and appearance of your teeth and can also be used to lengthen teeth and close gaps.

Dental bonding and veneers are both great ways to improve the appearance of your teeth.

What are the  differences between the two?

There are a few main differences between the dental bonding and veneers:

o   Dental bonding is done directly in the mouth with a material called composite resin. Sometimes, we do not need to remove any tooth structure in order to add bonding, although it does depend on certain factors.

o   Porcelain veneers are made by a cosmetic dental lab outside of the mouth and then cemented into place. For veneers, shaving down a thin layer of your enamel is usually required to create space for the veneers to seat on your teeth.

o  Dental bonding only takes one short appointment. Veneers take 2-3 appointments, since they are made by a dental lab.

o   Porcelain veneers are usually more esthetic and lifelike than bonding.

o   Veneers also are longer-lasting than dental bonding because bonding is more likely to stain or chip in a shorter period of time compared to veneers, which are made of a stain-resistant, stronger material.

What is the process of getting veneers?

After your initial exam and consultation, the first step of getting veneers is cleaning and preparing your teeth for the veneers. This preparation process involves shaving down a thin layer of your enamel to make space for the veneers to seat on your teeth.

Once your teeth are prepared, we will take digital scans or impressions to send to a cosmetic dental lab where your new smile will be custom designed and fabricated. We will get a shade match to your ideal shade. This may involve whitening your natural teeth beforehand.

In between the preparation appointment and the cementation of the veneers, we will fit you with temporary veneers.

The next step of the process is usually a try-in appointment to confirm the shape, size and shade of the veneers to ensure all your cosmetic goals are met and you are completely happy with your new smile!

If everything looks good at the try-in appointment, the lab will fabricate the final veneers and we will then permanently cement them, giving you your new, beautiful smile!
