Dental Implant Crowns
In most instances, dental implants are the best treatment option for replacing a missing tooth. Dental implants are made of three parts:

-
A titanium implant that is surgically inserted into the area of the missing tooth. The implant itself replaces the root of the tooth. During healing, the implant fuses to the bone, providing a solid foundation for the implant crown. This process usually takes 3-4 months.
-
After healing, a porcelain implant crown is fitted on top of the implant, forming the replacement tooth.
-
The third component is called an abutment. This is a post that connects the implant to the crown.

Implants look and function like natural teeth. They provide chewing function like natural teeth and you can brush and floss around them just like natural teeth.
Dental implants also help preserve the jaw bone. After tooth loss and without replacement, the jaw bone is resorbed and shrinks, leading to defects in the bone. Placing an implant helps prevent this shrinkage. The sooner implants are placed after tooth loss, the better the result.
Another benefit of implants compared to other tooth replacement options is that no adjacent teeth are altered, as they are for bridges and partial dentures. Implants are a highly successful, long-term solution to tooth loss.
